Making a simple Jacket for Christmas

3 Simple Pieces

1 piece on the fold for the back

1 Pieces on the other piece not on the fold for the Jacket front

The Piece that is laying on the left of part  for the sleeves

Cut out jacket and sleeve pieces

For this jacket I stitched both sleeve and lining and then tucked them together and top stitched close to edge on end and top of sleeve so they wouldn't slide

I used black satin blanket binding and topstitched it on the end of sleeve by sliding it over the end.

Sew the front pieces to the back pieces at shoulders and side seams then top stitch all around close to the edge and around the sleeve holes to keep the pieces from sliding apart or uneven.

After sewing the lining to the jacket I took the black sating blanket binding and folded in so it would be half as wind ... pinned it on the bottom of the jacket and topstitched in place

I cut the blanket binding a little longer than the jacket front edge and inserted flat batting cut to be a little smaller and then overlapped the dge on the front and topstitched once in 1/4 inch and then a second time on the very edge.  I thought this gave the edge a more finished look.

I made the bottom a half inch longer so I could fold it under and top stitch over that edge for a quick finish.

Both the sleeve top edge and the sleeve hole were topstitched close to the edge to make it easier to sew in the set in sleeve.
